COOL CAMPAIGN {DIOR SUMMER MIX}

Dior's campaign for their Summer Mix collection of nail polish and lipstick is perfection. Julia Haftsrom's perfectly pale complexion make the bold palette pop and the products themselves are just as beautiful. I'm obsessed. Play the video! Everything about it shouts summer and fun! Whether you can paint your pout and nails in Dior or choose another brand, be sure to go bright this summer.

PATTERN PLAY

Dots on Dots | Stripes on Stripes

I love me some good pattern play and all things retro. I think it's amazing how patterns never really go away, especially stripes and polka dots. They are both so timeless. These photos are stunning. Same recipe, two photos. Bold pattern look in the foreground with a similar equally bold pattern in the background. Somehow the look pops and the background only enhances its beauty. What a great way to showcase pattern.

TYPE HYPE

Whenever summer rolls around Kanye West's Good Life is a song I want to put on my playlist. The video is equally awesome and so fun. When music and lettering collide it's the ultimate cool for me. The lettering and simple illustrations are so playful and how Kanye and T. Pain interact with both is just the best! It's all so simple, but so complexly perfect. I think music videos are an amazing way for an artist to bring their music to life and sometimes the video makes you like the song even more. In anything, it's important to really have fun and go the extra mile. I think this video is the perfect example of both. Check it out!

TRENDY FEET {WEDGE SNEAKERS}

Katia pink | 2 See by Chloe | 3 Jeffrey Campbell | 4 Chloe | 5 Ash | 6 Guiseppe Zanotti | 7 Ash bowie

Trends come and go and sometimes as soon as they come you hope they go! For me the wedge sneaker trend in footwear is a case of just that. Personally speaking though, I usually don't wear sneakers unless I'm working out so maybe I'm not a good critic. What do you think, do want to rock these kicks or kick em to the curb?

FOODIE FLOATS

donut | pretzel

Now that summer is here I'm ready to relax and float in the pool. I saw these on Urban Outfitters and I just adore them. They actually look comfortable too, especially that pretzel! How neat would a pool look filled with all sorts of fun floats?!

ARTIST ENVY {DARREN BOOTH}

lettering for a concert poster, Bright Eyes at SXSW

album art, Here We Go Again, Celebrating the Genius of Ray Charles

lettering, MIT sunstainability

Object of my envy... Darren Booth
What does he make? Really awesome textural hand lettering and illustrations
Who does he make this for? Darren has done work for ESPN, AOL, Target, The New York Times, Billboard magazine, and a ton of other notables.
__
Thoughts... I am amazed when somebody can create gorgeous hand lettering, but Darren Booth takes it to a whole other level. So many artists do lettering, but a lot of it blends together. Darren's unique approach using collage and paint make his work truly stand out.Darren doesn't stop at lettering though, he also does illustration with the same approach and it's just as great. I love looking at his work, it's really inspiring and it's amazing how clean and flawless it all is. You can see more of Darren's lettering and illustrations here.

CRACK THE COLOR CODE

P=Primary | S=Secondary | T=Tertiary

Want to play around with color in your wardrobe but a little nervous? Try using a color wheel. It can be really helpful when you are trying to mix up your style. To use it you must first understand it. The wheel consists of 12 colors broken down into 3 categories --
(3) primary colors; yellow, red, and blue
(3) secondary colors; these are a mix of two primary colors {i.e. yellow + blue = green}.
(6) tertiary colors; these fall between primary and secondary colors and are a mix of the two colors
they fall between {i.e. red orange, between orange & red}

So how do you apply this to your look? It's pretty simple. Here are the basics you can use:

Complimentary colors are located right across from one another. Wearing complimentary colors gives you a vibrant, high-contrast look. Perfect for color blocking! {i.e. violet & yellow}

2 Analogous colors are adjacent to one another. Wearing analogous colors gives you a harmonious look. Make sure to use one color as your dominant color and the other as an accent. {i.e. yellow, yellow- green}

Monochromatic colors are different shades {lighter} and tints {darker} of the same color. This works best when you also wear some black or white to break it up. {i.e. hot pink, light pink, blush}

So go ahead, mix it up! Now that you have the key, the possibilities are endless. Mixing crazy colors and prints is on trend right now anyways, it's hard to go wrong.

STYLISH TANKS {DIP-DYE}

I really love when a trend can be seen in everyday style and activewear. You can workout and still be stylish! Dip dye clothing and accessories are very popular right now, I was happy to see Under Armour was dipping in to this trend. This Under Armour tank is perfect for getting your sweat on and that Gap tank is great to chill in.

{THING}PIRATION x CITRUS

1 Bauble Bar necklace  | 2 Marc Jacobs earrings | 3 American Vintage top | 4 Cookie Johnson pants | 5 Mrs. Lilien's Cocktail Swatchbook | 6 Zara clutch |  7 H&M sandals

Want to look fresh? Try this -- dress in cool citrus colors. Often times when I can't decide what to wear I try to think of beautiful things to be inspired by and try to find colors I wouldn't normally wear. Lemons, limes, grapefruit, and oranges all have amazing palettes. You might not usually wear these colors together, but when you slice them they look amazing together, so why not slice your style up? Try it out, you'll look fresh no matter what!

A NEW SPIN TO YOUR LOOK

I went on the Madewell website today and saw a sort of clothing slot machine on the homepage. I clicked spin and immediately loved it! When you click, it brings up a new ensemble each time, including an accessory or bag, two pieces of clothing, and a pair of shoes or sandals. If you see a look you like, you cursor over and you can shop all the pieces that come up simply by clicking. What a clever way to not only offer people suggestions on different looks, but to encourage people to play around with new spins on their look. Mixing patterns and colors is so popular right now, why not play around? You can take a spin at Madewell, or you can just grab some things from your wardrobe and take a chance on a not so safe look. What a fun and unique idea! Good job Madewell.

SWATCH THE THRONE {JUBILEE PANTONE}

via likecool
Throughout Queen Elizabeth II's 60 year reign on the British throne, her wardobe has been anything but dull. In celebration of the Diamond Jubilee, Leo Burnett London teamed up with Pantone to create a color guide book of the Queen's best color ensembles. The guide is numbered and features Pantone color references and cites the date and location of each outfit color choice. It features some of the Queen's most notable color choices including Primrose Yellow which she wore to Prince William and Kate's wedding last year. It also shows the Queen's preference of shades from the Crystal Blue color group. Pantone noted that the Queen dresses monochromatically to give the illusion she is taller than she actually is, which is 5'4". This is such a neat concept. It's really interesting to see what the Queen wore to different events and why she might have perhaps chose that color. What a colorful woman. Happy Diamond Jubliee Queen Elizabeth II! Stay colorful.

LONDON + COCA-COLA

via designworklife

I have always been a huge fan of Matt W. Moore's work. When I saw that he had collaborated with Attik UK and Coca-Cola to create an extensive campaign for the 2012 London Olympics I was so excited. He created a large graphic library and Attik refined it into a visual identity system. Attik then passed around the visual identity system to agencies around the world to work with on their regional campaigns. These amazing, vibrant, and dynamic graphics will be everywhere soon! Check out more of MWM graphics here. His other work may not be for Coca-Cola, but it is really incredible!

IF I WERE A BOY...

1 Cole Haan Air Jasper | 2 Jil Sander Oxford | 3 Walk-Over Derby | 4 Steve Madden Jazie | 5 Cole Haan Lunargrand | 6 Swear Logan | 7 Mark McNairy Loafers | 8 Sperry Top Slider

I look at mens clothing and footwear all the time. When I see something really styling, I oftentimes think to myself "if i were a boy...I would definitely wear that!" I like to imagine my style if I was a boy version of myself. The first mens shoes that I saw with colored soles were Cole Haan Air Jasper Wingtip. I thought they were amazing. It was a shoe that looked like it would go with everything, but the splash of unexpected color added some playfulness to it. Any plain look would immediately be awesome with a colored sole. Since then, I have been seeing more colored soles on many different style shoes, by several brands. I guess I'm not the only one that thinks this is amazing. Check out those lime green soles on the Jil Sander oxfords! {gasp!} I actually think this is becoming popular on women's shoes too, so I guess I can try it out too!
